Over one billion tons of topsoil are lost every year due to soil erosion. Soil erosion has a major impact on the economy, most notably the agricultural sector. Erosion control is the exercise of preventing water or wind erosion on land, construction sites, coastal and agricultural areas.
Generally, slopes greater than 1:3 will require additional erosion protection to assist in the prevention of soil loss through erosion.
